Looking like one big giant canteen. We found out that the owner also has a part buisness share with Misiliana hotel and wants to bring the fine dining experience closer to the center of town. Service is good although they lack the English ability. Suggestion Go for ikan bandeng bakar fish bandeng barbicued 20,000 rp. Price Food prices range from 10,000 rp for Noodles with vegetables right up to 25,000 rp for Traditional dishes. Drinks range from 2,000 for a es tawar to 9,000 rp for fruit juices.

Description If you have come all the way out to Indonesia and at least once on you trip you will try Bakso a meatball based soup normally with noodles and crisp fried krupuk. But alas most have very little meat in them, if at all. But we have found the difference at Alang Alang only that you will have to travel out of town! Head south for 5 km and its on the left hand side just as the great sa’dan river bends. Odering is easy just ask for Bakso and it will be served swiftly to your table. The staff don’t speak English as the Bakso does all the talking. Suggestion Well guys there’s only one choice here but its well worth it a real tasty Bakso soup (12,000 rp) Price All bowls are between (12,000 rp) Drinks range from 3,000 rp for a water to 9,000 rp for drinks from a fridge plus tea or coffee (3-7,000 rp)

What we like about this place is the seating area outside to enjoy whats happening on the main street. The owner is normally around and love’s to come up and have a chat about what you have been up to in and around Toraja. The staff speak English fluently. Suggestion Go for the old classic pork in Pamarassan they give you a really good portion nearly enough for two people. (45,000 rp) Price All food is priced between 10-55,000 rp. Merdaka 10, Rantepao, Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia 91831 Description Nicely located just down from Bakmie Gentong, looking out over the football field which is Rantepao’s only real park, it does look a bit shabby from the outside but once inside and after you have climbed the spiral staircase you enter the Cafe’ seating area with a choice of tables or floor seating area’s. What we really like about this place is the view over the field onto the mountains making it a great place to browse the net and have something to eat. The staff don’t speak English but are very friendly. Suggestion Go for the Kapurung a Sago based soup served with pieces of chicken, vegetables, peanuts and sweetcorn (8,000 rp) Price All food is between 7-25,000 rp. Drinks range from 6,000 rp for an Es Teler to 10,000 rp for a coconut juice.

Set back and looking like someones little house just near the Post Office. It’s name says it all, Coto; a classic dish from Makassar, a rich soup of buffalo stock with chunks of very lean buffalo meat often eaten with a steamed rice packet woven from a natural palm fronds. Odering is easy just show a finger or two and your Coto is served promptly. The staff don’t speak English as the food does all the talking. Description When we heard of Martin the Chef it surprised us to find out he had rented two of Rantepao’s restaurants making them very successful with his delicious cuisine, soon people noticed and so did the owners so they ended his contract thinking they could do the same, sadly they did not. Now Martin is located on the road to Sangalla‘ with his new restaurant Bambu with an exciting new menu. Using lots of bamboo and natural roofing material it has a natural feel, Bambu restaurant is a great stop off point when visiting sights such as kambira. The staff are very polite and speak English fluently. Suggestion Go for local Torajan vegetables kangkung Ayam Spesial. His vision was to create an arty setting with great food so he founded Cafe Aras. The place feels welcoming as soon as you enter. The walls are made of split bamboo rising up to kamacha (woven bamboo) to the ceiling. They’ve put lots of art and textiles to the walls (make an offer if you see something you like!). Stylish wooden tables and chairs are set out over two mezzanine floors on either end of the place. Cafe Aras has an open kitchen in the back next to an outside seating area. Their extensive menu covers everything from Torajan dishes over Indonesian classics to western food. Service is fast & the friendly staff speaks English well. In the evenings Cafe Aras is a vibrant hub where travellers hang out, drink beers and share their stories of the day while local guides play guitar and sing songs. Suggestion Try their tasty pork in pamarasan sauce for 45,000 rp or maybe a yummy pizza. Price theres lots of choice western food …

You sit surrounded by brightly coloured cement fish by little bridges, located At the back there is further seating in an open plan restaurant. The menu has a few Indonesian style spelling mistakes which put smiles on many a tourists face. Service is good although they lack the English ability. Too many warungs and restaurants seem to go for the easy way. Buy premade industrial noodles, cook them and serve them with cheap meat. Bakmie Gentong makes the difference! Not only are their noodles home made, but also the pieces of chicken that are being served are of premium quality. No bones, no skin, no bullshit. The owner of this little restaurant is an Italian woman who lives in Tana Toraja for about 20 years. She’s usually around and speaks English fluently.
